    In fact, rc7 is slightly bigger than both rc6 and rc5 were, both in number of commits, and in actual diff size. That's not really how it should work out
    I'm not the only one who immediately though of bcachefs I bet

      I think its from many sources to get them in for the Ubuntu 24.10 Kernel. And its better to push the fixes now than later to get more things working out of the box

        yeah, I checked on the patches to revert kent's stealth edit aka "remove PF_MEMALLOC_NORECLAIM" that hasn't been included yet. so we probably a showdown brewing for 6.12.

        in doing my research it seems like kent had to revert lockless buffered IO. see the details here: https://github.com/koverstreet/bcach...72015efd4fee81

        I remember this when everyone told him he was crazy to try to do it lockless, and he said he needs all the performance he can get. Well he does get credit for trying as well as prudently giving up until he can figure out the issue. It seems the underlying issues with lockless buffered IO will remain hidden for some time to come.
