What will happen to their current HORDE based mail webclient?

horde is kind of dead. I'm on the maillist and the remaining couple of users are considering to fork & migrate to php8.

Not HORDE itself, but Nextcloud Mail, which uses HORDE in the backend. Is it the same issue there?

i'm the opposite, I use roundcube just because it's just an email client not a suite. I used squirrelmail before, but it's development stalled.

I've played around with nextclould, but found it to be jack of all trades master of none. And didn't help that it's not packaged in fedora.

Same here. I have to use Nextcloud because I need its file syncing capabilities, but I hate how complex it is. IIRC they recommend a limit of 512MB of RAM per worker; they need to be removing features, not adding them.

Honestly though, Roundcube is/was also trying to be an all-in-one solution; it’s just that most people weren’t interested. This decision seems to align with their goals, so good for them in that one very narrow respect.

the situation is worse then I first understood. the developer of roundcube is leaving the project.

In this context I'm pleased that he found it a good home (in the sense that theys are pretty good opensource guys the understand php webapps). It's also good that they plan to have standalone releases for the forseeable future.

I stopped using nextcloud because it was a mess to setup, and fedora didnt' have the latest versions in their repos but just looking that seems to be fixed. based on that interview, I wouldn't be surprised if they start to add nextcloud core libraries to easy maintainers burden, but hopefully nothing too radical that it's not a seemless upgrade.

I have always hoped RoundCube WebMail and NextCloud contacts could link up better. I guess that is more than likely at this point.

I've ran NextCloud for years. I would hope that RC could still be severable , but at this point i guess it's not the biggest deal in the world.

I tried NC Mail and I am not a fan of it.

I'm actually thinking of giving my NC a wipe and starting over soon, the Password Manager has broken horribly and wont even load and I've since discontinued use of it entirely. I am not even sure that web-based password management is or ever will be sane.

If NC Mail wants to take RoundCube to the next level they should literally extend it to do all the administrative functions of a Email Server aswell.

Configuring and setting up a Email Server is a massive PITA that is badly in need of simplification if the internet of the future is going to continue to be node to node instead of centralized trash.

It's not a bug in Owncloud. Some Microsoft analitycs library can expose phpinfo from Owncloud container and *only* from container. Core Owncloud (from https://owncloud.com/download-server/) does not have this functionality at all.

Thanks for the info! As I said I don't use ownCloud anymore (as I have a choice), so I gave the Ars article () and the CVE (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2023-49103), which has a base score of 10.

So maybe I'm just paranoid in this day and age.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have considered it, but I need a server-client model rather than a peer-to-peer model. Maybe SyncThing could provide something like that, too, but it doesn't seem like the best solution for that purpose.
