Yay! I hope RT patches finally get merged upstream before end 2024, please...

But my console still have ugly colors. Why doesn't it have pretty colors?

Why cant I use the scroll wheel on my mouse to scroll the buffer up and down?

Why is there no way to use my mouse to select text to copy so it?

Why is there no wallpaper? I would like a dark background with a very subtle pattern.

Given the length of time it has taken thus far, I reckon we are looking at Q1-2 2024 at the earliest

you can use gpm for mouse, fbterm for colors, and fbv for background image. pretty simple to setup.

Kernel console is not a good place to support pretty colours and background image/pattern. Additional features can always be added via user-space software after the computer has booted up and logged in. Only boot logs / messages is limited by kernel console feature set. If one want pretty boot up, we already have splash image for most people.

p.s. We lost kernel console scrollback https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-...oft-Scrollback since kernel 5.9. It is a pity. But no kernel maintainers stood up and kept the code from being axed.

Damn, I didn't realize this was removed upstream. I just assumed it was some local config issue or even distro bs in some of the recent installations. Are there any alternatives for this use-case with other framebuffer drivers or modules?
