Patching a font for a design change is equivalent to breaking design, fonts usually have an extremely well defined and strict set of "rules" that are defined before the font even fully takes shape.

Notable exclusions for being universally terrible fonts: Arial, times new roman, comic sans.

But what if many different designs are encoded in the font itself? I'd like to take a moment to show my favorite mono font: Iosevka

It is very configurable at the source level, with many different styles, although I just use the default most of the time. I really like the slightly condensed feel of it, not unlike Terminus. Excellent language support. It has prebuilt versions with and without ligatures, a dedicated "Term" variant with optimized spacing for terminal usage, and a whole lot more. It's a beast.

One of the first things I do when setting up a new environment is getting this font in the terminal and text editor asap. Chances are, if you like the aspect ratio, there's going to be a style you like.

Bah... The young people of today. Not A single one of you so far has mentioned Topaz 8. The only font real codes care about.... Besides the (intel) font is allegedly free to both use/improve or *not use* so I don't see anything wrong with yet another font to choose from.

Yes! I recommend you also try Office Code Pro (awful name), which takes Source Code Pro up a notch. I've tried every coding font in existence (including this new IntelOne Mono) and I always go back to Office Code Pro. It's as clear as the best of them, but handsome enough that I often forget that it's a mono font for coders.

Are you talking about this one https://www.dafont.com/topaz-new.font ?

It looks OK for high DPI displays, its bitmap version sucks.

To me personally it's way too narrow and too bold at the same time. I'm looking at it and I already feel claustrophobic

A thing to note: since the same font size looks actually differently on different fonts, I had to try finding the closest size that looks more or less the same. The Intel One (on the right) looks a tiny bit smaller than Ubuntu Mono. However! It still only allows for 57 lines on the screen whereas with Ubuntu Mono there are 69!

Besides lines count, I also notice that even if I increase Intel One size, the Ubuntu Mono is more readable, because its letter are a bit more thick.

Upload the picture somewhere else as a PNG file. This one is shrunk so much nothing can be seen.

Michael doesn't allow to upload large image files - he doesn't want to backup gigabytes worth of data.

Yeah, I did. It is right in the next comment after the one you quoted.

Terminus for your display will be quite a lot more legible. Especially boldness for both of your fonts looks blurry/dirty and is hard to read.
