FWIW: I don't see a lot of Linux users using their USB4 port for eGPU gaming. So I can see where DP Alt might be more desirable for traditional use cases, especially since most TB and USB docks support it.
I am currently testing a PC with the AMD USB4 host controller. Both Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C docks work fine. (At least the HP ones I tested did)
Several NVME to USB 3.2 bridge chips all test out at 7Gbps (read) on the USB4 port.
The AMD controller is a Gen 4, 16 lane device.
