Phoronix: Wine 8.1 Released - Now Exposed As "Windows 10" For New Prefixes

Following the release of Wine 8.0 stable from a week and a half ago, Wine 8.1 is out today as the first bi-weekly development snapshot for this open-source software that allows running Windows games and applications on Linux, macOS, and other platforms. These Wine 8.x development snapshots will then culminate with the release of Wine 9.0 next year...

    Cool!
But can we change the exposed version back to Windows 7 if we want to?

Yes, it's just changing the default.

Wine let you choose exposed Windows version just like it always did. The only difference is that it will be set to Windows 10 by default.

First I though that they are pretty quick because they changed default version from Windows XP to Windows 7 not long time ago and then I realized it was 6 years ago. Times flies isn't it?

            Or should it be WineX!!!

Or Wine Mountain Lion as counting is so hard for software devs these days apparently!

Or to really differentiate instead of "big cats" somehow being version number they should one up it and go with large sea mammals... I want Wine Blue Whale!!! That sounds like a really good version!

WineX is real. It was similar to what proton was before proton. As WineX was what Cedega was before it went from open source to closed source.

When do you think proton is going to rebase to a 8.x version?
