Phoronix: POCL 3.0-RC1 Released For OpenCL 3.0 Implemented On CPUs

POCL as the "Portable Computing Language" that gets OpenCL running on CPUs as well as via LLVM allowing for targeting NVIDIA GPUs, AMD HSA environments, and other cases, is now preparing to roll-out OpenCL 3.0 support...

This is great to see! It seems like we're nearing a point where OpenCL 3.0 support can be assumed on all distros and hardware, somewhat akin to the OpenGL situation. Just as llvmpipe provides a software-only OpenGL renderer for those machines without a capable GPU, POCL can serve as a CPU-based fallback.

This should enable more apps to embrace OpenCL acceleration. It's taken a long time, but maybe that also roughly follows the precedent of how long it took OpenGL to reach the same point?
