Correction: Orphan_file is not a mount option, but rather a file system feature that requires a development version of e2fsprogs. The orphan file provides multiple blocks which can be updated in parallel by different CPU's instead of using a linked list of inodes which requires a single mutex to add an inode to the set of orphan inodes.
