        While I'm sure Microsoft has put a lot of honest work into their NTFS, NTFS-3G (on FUSE) on Linux is often faster than NTFS on NT, by quite a margin.

          Although the NTFS driver in Windows itself is slow, one of the main reasons its slow in Windows is that NTFS filesystem supports arbitrary hooks that can be executed on any FS operation and Windows happens to install a lot of such hooks (think of Antivirus).
