It has nothing to do with "great posters". It's about a newbie enterting an established community and throwing their weight around.

...but whatever. I doubt you'll listen so I'm out. Call that stupidity or cowardice or whatever else makes you feel good. I've got better things to do with my time.

I do not always agree with what you say, but in this case you are right.

The fact that they believe that brevity is the soul of wit and don't post 2300 posts also means the same. I thank Michael and his generosity in providing a site with good readable info and I only "contribute" when I feel it right. But it's not about me, right? So don't make it about me.

The previous poster has a problem and needs to stop frothing. I don't care if he has 2300 posts or 20 posts or if he's been around 3 months or 30 years. When it contributes negatively to conversation, communication, and information, that speaks for itself NO MATTER how many posts I have.

I won't post my resume here. I find that people who say "I've been doing this for XX years" generally are trying to enjoy their laurels. I'm not. I work everyday and I read Phoronix as often as I can.. and I only contribute when I think my input is of value.

But thanks for your lecture, Junior. A piece of advice for you: if your method of judging the "value" of a post is a)How long has this poster had a paid account, or b)How many posts have they made... you're so far off the rails you're just rewarding loudmouth losers.

Wow. Reading voraciously. I followed you name and link. I will not deny that you have accomplished some impressive things, but so has ssokolow. I have also checked out your posts on dirttech (since you graciously give us your name) and you seem to to have a propensity for trolling people who do not agree with you. Here, we do have some trolling, and if you have been reading as much as you say than you would have recognized that we have several examples of people who troll and then create multiple account to continue trolling. You definitely appeared to be one of those since you quickly made personal attacks without asking why and ssokolow. And based upon your posts in other forums, I would guess that that is what you like to do.

Your comparison to Trump is irrelevant and has no purpose here. We try to avoid politics (in general) unless it affects the tech that we are talking about. But if you want to go there, I could list many Hollywood celebrities that post meaningless drivel that many people espouse as fact because of who they are. You can say Faux (Fox) News while others say Clinton News Network (CNN) or MSDNC is irrelevant. As an example from https://www.techdirt.com/user/gavron:

Tell your GP you took yourself off the meds and the Narcissistic Personality Disorder is back. You would like your prescription renewed.
And I'll be laughing my ass off in silence over it.
Laughing isn't silent, and only a narcissist or a douche tells other people "I'll be laughing over it." Nobody cares. Nobody has ever cared. Not even the idiot staring at you in the mirror when you shave.

So, politely, get back on your meds please. You have no understanding of the laws of which you attempt to speak; you're a narcissist (feel free to look up King Narcissus); you're self-absorbed; time for those meds.

Check out how many times you said "I" and "me" and go cry yourself you sleep on your big pillow that has a pink pony and the words "Life is all about me" on it, why don't you.

Note that wasn't a question. You're not even bright enough to sign your name. You KNOW your swill isn't welcome.

        Bye troll.

Although you will see stuff like this occasionally, the overwhelming majority of us try to avoid this. I also noticed that even though you have followed this for years, you only have subscribed recently to six topics. I also followed for a couple of years before I joined and I found that my first posts were generally answered with respect and help, even if my questions were rather stupid in the eyes of many of the members here.

Again, ssokolow has many different opinions than me, we can agree to disagree and will honestly ask each other questions without playground name calling. That is called honest dialogue and discussion - your posts from the forum https://www.techdirt.com/user/gavron as well as your post here does not seem to indicate a desire to have honest conversation.

No. You said enough about yourself to remove all doubts. Doubling down on stupid hasn't seemed to help.

Try reconsidering. You're not contributing anything useful to this planet.
Maybe ssokolow was speaking tongue in cheek (you never asked) or maybe he firmly believed that (you never asked), but the personal attacks were unwarranted. Perhaps he responded back to you too forcefully, but based upon my previous statement about trolls, you might of have been a little less aggressive. You will find that in intelligent forums devoted to discussion that asking politely why someone feels a certain way will get you a thoughtful response.

I tried to explain this to you, but based upon what I saw, I probably have not changed you mind. Maybe I should do like ssokolow said and

Goodbye - and when you are ready to post something constructive, we will be more than happy to discuss it with you.

That's one of the most asinine things I've read on this board. Value does not come from the account's age.

Any person can point to me how wrong I am, no matter the age of their account vs mine, but if you're right maybe I should delete this one and recreate a new one to not miss out on possible valuable comments.

That's really the kind of stuff that makes me think we need boards with anonymous accounts ( the modern way of people upvoting/downvoting in mass, not necessarily based on the content but more often on the name of the person posting, is really scary to this old timer).

(Obviously, I don't agree with the personal attack either, it was definitely uncalled for, but that's a whole different subject.)

The key detail is "shoot off their mouth". I have no problem with a newbie calling me out for being wrong. That's the foundation of good debate. The problem is when they barge in like they own the place and ignore the rules of productive discourse.

Oh yeah, well in that case I probably wouldn't even reply, newbie or not, as that's about as much as it'd deserve.
              But fair enough.
