Linux 5.10 Didn't Even Last 24 Hours... Linux 5.10.1 Released Due To Bugs

It turns out there are demonstrably better ways of encouraging the learning process (for people who want to learn) than shouting at people.

Some people, often with armour-plated egos, are so attached to the idea that they can't make mistakes, that shouting is a method that just might get through to them. Self criticism, and the ability to accept that you just might be wrong are important attributes, sometimes. Egotistical sociopaths lack those attributes.

Exactly as you say, there are better ways than shouting. Shouting is maybe a good approach to train soldiers. Also dogs and animals. But you would hardly become excellent pilot of flying fighter aircraft by being shouted on. You usually need much of motivation to be one of the best. And shouting does not provide too much motivation. Some degree yes, but rather out of fear than of self-motivation. So, even for kids, it is better to lead them by the encouragement and self-motivation whenever possible if we possess the abilities and qualities necessary for such leadership. Statistically, we shall reach much better results. Not speaking about quality of relations that would be much much higher.

As a former Soldier (enlisted infantry than artillery officer), I can tell you that shouting is not usually the best way to train Soldiers, but it is very useful for getting attention. If you shout all of the time, then no one pays attention to you - much like the car alarm going off in the parking lot. Shouting at dogs and animals is usually used best for discipline, but not usually used for training. But as for the rest, I am in complete agreement with you.

Thanks!!!! Very valuable contribution. Very nice insight that we need to deal with other people as persons and use shouting wisely or when necessary. Good point concerning animals.

Be careful using 5.10 and 5.10.1 with f2fs, as there's a f2fs data corruption bug in 5.10.1, which I've encountered.
In the Gentoo portage tree, they've even masked 5.10 and 5.10.1 and released 5.10.1-r1 with a fix for the f2fs data corruption bug: https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gento...411006f018b6d8

I think I also saw first hand the changes made due to the nVidia shim blocking. I upgraded to the 10.1 kernel this past weekend on my KDE Neon systems. After upgrading the systems, I ran sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-get autoremove to clean things up. On my AMD APU 4800U system, there were no issues. On my intel i7-7500U with 620 HD graphics and an nVidia 940MX, I received messages about nVidia DKM not being able to be installed and then messages about missing i915 firmware and missing realtek (8569 I think) firmware. The driver install would quit with errors, but it showed that I was using it. I rolled the nVidia driver successively back from 455 to 450 to 390 with no change. I changed to the noveau driver and all of the issues went away. I do not really care about the nVidia driver since I use the box primarily for work (I am not a developer) not entertainment or game playing so the intel and noveau graphics are good enough for me.

This is reproducible, so if anybody has a burning desire to see it, please let me know.

I haven't upgraded my laptop yet (using hybrid graphics on a ThinkPad P52 with Intel HD Graphics and a NVIDIA Quadro; where I'm using modesetting with reverse-prime with the NVIDIA driver), but I can tell that I'm using 5.10.1 with nvidia-drivers-455.45.01 on my main rig at home and it's been working without any problems on my KDE desktop for a couple of days already. I might give it a go this week if I have some spare time and let you know the results.

I just checked https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux...log/?h=v5.10.2 and it does not mention anything regarding a f2fs related fix, so I'm assuming it's not included.

I just installed kernel 5.10.2 and everything seems to be fine so far for me, the only thing I'm getting periodically is a when using reverse prime with the NVIDIA / modesetting driver.
