Phoronix: Linux 5.10 LTS Released As One Of The Biggest Kernel Releases In A While

As expected, Linus Torvalds today officially released Linux 5.10. Besides being the last kernel release of 2020, this is a significant milestone in that it's also a Long Term Support (LTS) kernel to be maintained for at least the next five years and also is a huge kernel update in general with many new features...

I'm looking forward to the Raspberry Pi VC4 support and the new ARM Spectre mitigations. Mad props to Linus and all the kernel developers making Linux great again!

                Nice.

Few comments, beyond usual big hitters in terms of Intel and AMD hardware.

perf tool get ability to read debug symbols from PE binaries running under wine.

hwmon got support for rated attributes, which expose maximal allowed limits of specific hardware monitored, i.e. min temperature, max temperature, max current, max voltage, max power, etc. Right now it only supports pmbus on OpenBMC systems, but more devices will probably see the support for this.

Some other minor things that cought my interest:
And Qualcomm video drivers for SM8150 and SM8250 CPUs.
Better support of touchpad on some new Thinkpad laptops.
Analog joystick support using industrial I/O ADC
Audio mixing support with Pioneer DJ DJM-250MK2
Sega Saturn USB retro controller adaptor support
Multi-Path TCP on sending side even for single TCP flows
                IGMPv3/MLDv2 support in bridge mcast
                More statistics in ethtool
More (all) socket options exposed for use by iproute2 ss tool
Better in-kernel random generation, based on SipHash core. Mostly used for things like port number assignment in network stack, and sequence numbers.
Performance improvements in overlayfs, xfs, btrfs ext4, and nfs (client and server)
                PREEMPT_RT support in seqlock
Minor improvements for building deb packages (no fakeroot needed for tracing chown root:root changes, and reproducible build fixes).

and of course 10000 other fixes, drivers updates, new devices, and core changes in networking, vfs, debugging, core kernel, etc.
