It's been one week already since feature work ended on Linux 5.9 and that means it's time for the 5.9-rc2 kernel. Like clockwork, Linux Torvalds has shipped Linux 5.9-rc2 with the initial batch of bug/regression fixes as well as some late changes for the cycle...

RC1 had only the one change: "add inline encryption support". This rc2 has 53 modifications for EXT4.
As usual, these Linux Kernels are available for quick & easy installation into most desktop Linux operating systems. Most of these systems are based on Ubuntu. Some (all?) Debian based systems can also use these official Ubuntu compilations.
There are ready compiled versions for the five CPU's.

Hopefully the new firmware will help it run better when it gets hot and man, do these chips get hot when pushed. They throttle back to 1GbE constantly to stay cool.

not heard anything to this affect about the 8125...?

i know the intel 2.5Gb NICs were buggy and could only be made to reliably run at 1Gb speeds.

I should have been more clear. In both 5.9 rc1 and rc2 VFIO passthrough is broken. If you don't use passthrough things are fine.

And the error is an oldy but goody - the old "VFIO_MAP_DMA failed: Cannot allocate memory" problem.
