    Sony's focus on this effort appears to be in line of further securing their Android smartphones.
    More like making sure their DRM in the phones can't be as easily bypassed. Sony's actions are suspect considering their past actions with arguably illegal rootkits and onerous DRM.

    Sony was one of the bad actor companies the GPL v3 was targeted at although their name came up less often than Tivo.
