Phoronix: Windows 10 May 2020 vs. Ubuntu 20.04 Is A Surprisingly Heated Race On The Intel Core i9 10900K

Last week I provided some fresh benchmarks of Windows 10 May 2020 vs. Linux on AMD. As has been common across multiple systems particularly with Threadripper, using Linux leads to a ~20% uptick in performance at large over Windows. While at times we have seen similar advantages for Intel CPUs on Linux, with the new Intel Core i9 10900K Comet Lake processor it is a very competitive race between Windows 10 May 2020 Update and Ubuntu Linux.

Is it Windows 10 really getting faster or it's Ubuntu getting slower or stagnating to not put its big money source in a bad light ?

In mitigation times it's hard to tell. However, Ubuntu setup is not optimal. However, there are still big advantages in Ubuntu performance over Windows. It only noticeably looses in some Firefox benchmarks.

I guess Microsoft is paying Canonical to make Ubuntu slower on purpose.

On a complete unrelated note: I am offering very cheap but effective tinfoil hats. Get them now while supply lasts.

            Completely unrelated, but:
            1. First they ignore you
            2. Then they laugh at you <<< --- We are here!
            3. Then they fight you
            4. Then you win

I think we are dangerously close to #3 if not there already.

With the spyware, mass surveilance, I think mr. Stallman was right from the beginning.

I wonder if in a few years will anyone still dare to make jokes about tinfoil hats...

Chris Titus's comparison shows windows getting faster.

Both Microsoft and Intel have been punished in courts multiple times for really bad anti-competitive behaviours. Being sceptical is warranted given for example this history

finaly the OS have the same performance in the same hardware, this means a equal support from hardware vendors. The problem of windows 10 is the lake of control and their ntfs

OK, you can never trust Big Corp's good intentions. However, in order to prove this point, Michael should've added Fedora to these Benchmarks. If he wanted to give an easy victory to Linux, he could've added Clear Linux and Gentoo with -O3 and gentoolto overlay. Those two distros are sure to perform better as far as CPU efficiency goes.
