It was just over a week ago that Reiser4 was updated for Linux 5.6 support while now it's been updated for the newly-minted Linux 5.7 stable kernel along with updating the experimental Reiser5 file-system for this latest kernel series...

Doesn't Shishkin realize how much badwill will disappear if he'd just fork and rename it to something else, anything else than Reiser?

This filesystem's issue isn't the name, quit being a special snowflake.

I have to agree with starshipeleven. One does not simply hate because of name. One has to be of certain mindset to hate like this.

If the name were changed, the hate would instead be reasoned with the filesystem being a brainchild of a murderer. It would not go away.

the best argument for the name to remain the same is that there is no valid argument to change it.

I think it won't be a bad idea if he renames the filesystem. As it stands it immediately reminds people of its origins.
The reality is that Shishkin spend a much longer time working on this than Hans did.

If it is technically superior to the current linux filesystems (which it was 10 years ago), then it should be used.

I don't think anyone should trust their data on a filesystem with so small community developing it, especially if out-of-tree, regardless of how good it seems on paper.

That said, it's really not so hot anymore, after ext4 appeared, XFS evolved, F2FS appeared and so on. Plus of course it won't hold a candle to btrfs or ZFS, the Reiser5 is supposed to take on the "next-gen filesystems" but it's not really ready and won't be for a while.
