    maybe there are some ddr-based optanes, but picture clearly shows nvme-based one

      Yeah, unfortunately don't have any Optane DCPMM so just fetched pick from older Optane.

          Does this optimization only targets dimm based optane and not nvme ones?

            You obviously need memory semantics for optane and that is only available in the dcpmm product. But check out pmem.io, they have a kernel parameter to set aside a chunk of ram to act as persistent storage and then you can play with these things on your regular pc.
