Phoronix: Reiser5 Spun Up For The Linux 5.5.5 Kernel

For those that have been wanting to take the experimental Reiser5 for a test drive since being announced at the end of 2019, new versions of the Reiser4 and Reiser5 file-system kernel patches have been posted...

However, when ultimately released it would be tough to imagine him returning to file-system development or even being welcomed back in the Linux kernel community.
Well if he makes a killer new filesystem that just buries the competition and has a compatible license, are they going to turn it down because of his life history?

What about we stop talk about "killer", murder and him and focus on the actual features and problems of the filesystem?

It's getting a bit tiring every thread about Reiser4/5 has to be deviated into a thread about his life.

Then tell Michael not to bring it up in TFA

Reiserfs creator Hans Reiser meanwhile is already eligible for parole and has a suitability hearing set to take place on 5 March. However, when ultimately released it would be tough to imagine him returning to file-system development or even being welcomed back in the Linux kernel community.
But, outside of TFA mentioning it, I concur.

We shouldnt let the filesystems associations impede being able from being another Linux fs choice, hopefully that will be mainlined. The more choices of filesystem, the better. So hopefully we will see reiserfs and bcachefs mainlined soon

IMHO, that's true up to a point. After that point it becomes a cluserfuck. I say that because look at how fragmented all the file systems are in regards to supported features. Case sensitivity, compression, FSCRYPT, and more are only supported on certain file systems.

Instead of having 1 or 2 Great file systems, we have like 20 OK file systems and 4 good ones.

We should be discussing what needs to be dropped, not what needs to be added.

Chance of this getting merged upstream without a rename = 0%.

No. The name really must be changed. There's no more place for "Reiser" in IT again.

Technical decisions should pay no attention to unrelated personal matters.

If it is good code, then it is good code. Use it.
