Phoronix: Six Features Not In The Mainline Linux 5.6 Kernel

While there are a lot of new end-user features with Linux 5.6, there are also some changes not yet mainlined. Here are six that come to mind as missing out on the Linux 5.6 merge window...

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

It's a shame inkernel DBUS has stalled, have been looking forward to it for a long time.

Waiting on multiple futexes (aka mutexes, outside Linux) can already be done with a semaphor. It's just slightly more invasive.

So what is blocking the futex work from mainlining? Is it still being improved?

Waiting for multiple events can be implemented on top of the existing futex API. At least from the provided description, I don’t see a reason to implement that inside the kernel. It’s probably also more performant to do in user space.

About the AMD Sensors Fusion Hub, the needed hid drivers for both gyroscope and accelerometer failed to build. Awaiting for the updated patches/fixes.

Edit: The testing kernel for Fedora 31 and up with enabled AMD Sensor Fusion HUB is built. The drivers work as intended but the hid drivers did not build some some odd reasons. https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/co...kernel-amdsfh/

I haven't got the time to apply the suggestion based on the comments inside the patchwork and contributors are welcome to edit the patches (https://patchwork.kernel.org/project...bmitter=175589).
