I remember when people spent time discussing and benchmarking SLAB, SLOB, SLUB, and SLQB (whatever happened to it) like they do now with i/o schedulers...

Wow, I had completely forgotten about that. That feels like a lifetime ago.

Either way, reading https://lwn.net/Articles/798605/ I feel that the patch modernises the slab memory controller to suit a modern system. Which is nice.
