But that was because in the past we didn't care much about service management and there were a handful of Unix/Unix-like operating systems so it didn't matter.

It's worse than that. Windows 10 supports SMP! It's urgent to remove SMP support from Linux (after all, Unix did just fine with a single CPU on the PDP11), lest it will be like Windows and update and reboot with telemetry enabled whenever Poettering says so!

All right, let's take a short break from the (arguably very fun) trolling in this thread and look at the ridiculousness of the situation. Someone has imported a dataset that allows Linux distros to properly manage USB suspend/resume. The benefit of this to the community should be self-evident and a no-brainer. But because the tool that actually performs that management happens to be distributed under the loose systemd brand, then the usual suspects report for duty and immediately see some sinister conspiracy, probably trying to take away their God given freedom to have dysfunctional USB or something.
