Given the penchant for moving to eBPF for an increasing number of in kernel security tracing and auditing architectures, replacing in kernel systems for iptables, nftables, etc, there probably can be some depreciations of the nftables code. iptables and nftables may simply become userspace tools that convert the tables into eBPF code that can be loaded into the kernel. Different kernel subsystems needing user controlled auditing can share the same BPF JIT compiler. Its also faster than iptables, and also could cover more use cases, eBPF could also be written by hand or in C code compiled to eBPF, being turing complete, might cover more use cases. This is one of the more exciting features of Linux in recent years.
