Phoronix: WarpDrive Proposed For The Linux Kernel: A Generic Accelerator Framework

HiSilicon is looking to add WarpDrive to the Linux kernel. Not to be confused with anything from Star Trek, WarpDrive is a generic accelerator framework they have been developing...

What kind of accelerator is it? Is this some sort of stuff for GPUs, or other kind of accelerators?

Is this something like GGI / KGI / libGGI - many years later?

        It is a mystery!

however a quick trip to the HiSilicon web site would have me guessing that we are talking high performance 8k video hardware.

            Seems similar to HSA (http://www.hsafoundation.com/).

Isn't this for accelerometer hardware like that found on smartphones?

Probably any type of integer processor is my guess. Basically what used to be NEC's bread and butter.

HiSilicon is basically Huawei's in-house SoC designer. Think Apple and their A-series SoC or if Google owned Qualcomm. This sounds like a generic version of HSA.
