  • GPL violation by Cary Audio for distributing a modified music player daemon

I don't know whether anyone of you has already picked this up yet, but apparently a company for audio products called Cary Audio says a big "F*ck you!" to the GPL. They seem to sell a modified music player daemon (MPD) binary with some third party code in one of their products and hence are obliged to give out the full source code including the third party stuff. They say, that they don't want to violate their third party agreements and rather ignore the GPL if I understand this correctly. The main author and copyright holder of MPD has now terminated their license of MPD, but they don't really seem to care and continue to sell their devices. I'm not sure whether I got this completely right because I'm not that familiar with the laws (especially in the US), but isn't this now pretty much the same for them as e.g. selling computers with a pirated version of Windows or selling pirated copies of games?

    Kind regards, LibertyZero
