Phoronix: Fedora 28 Hopes To Improve Linux Laptop Battery Life

Red Hat's Hans de Goede is spearheading an effort to improve the Fedora battery life of laptops -- and should conserve power too for desktops running Fedora Workstation -- for the current Fedora 28 cycle...

Are there somewhat equivalent settings for AMD-based systems?

Did you even read the article or the Fedora page that it was linked to?

There is nothing in the change proposal that is remotely Intel or AMD specific.

        From https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Chang...topBatteryLife

Enable Intel HDA codec power-saving by default with a 1 second timeout. This saves aprox. 0.4 Watts of power on an idle laptop.
        From https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9952739/

Intel CPUs starting with the Haswell generation need SATA links to power
down for the "package" part of the CPU to reach low power-states like
        PC7 / P8 which bring a significant power-saving with them.

Hans de Goede is responsible for the just-landed SATA link power management change to benefit Haswell laptops and newer.
          Yes, did you?

Intel HDA is not Intel-specific. Even on AMD systems the audio hardware is sometimes listed as 'AMD Azalia (Intel HDA)'.

As for the second quote, it just says that the SATA power-saving changes are more important than they first seem on Intel machines because Intel CPUs refuse to go to sleep fully unless SATA is sleeping.

Easy. Just throttle all your chips like Apple.

And then tell all your customers you are going to have to charge them double for all the great performance they're getting.
