        Yes they are.
        The thing is Mint always goes for the most stable/best possible user experience.
        And we all can agree that (unfortunately) Wayland does not deliver on that front, yet.
        Mint will support Wayland, eventyally.
        But will probably be one of the last distros to make that transition.

        Wayland (at least, right now) is about cutting edge. Mint is about stability/user experience. And those two don't get along.

        If you really want Wayland, i suggest Fedora or the upcoming Ubuntu 17.10
