    $175 million for an open source project that's supposed to be affordable? Makes me wonder how much longer that'll remain true.

      Well. You misunderstand the purpose of an acquisition. In this case, the software is already available and there is no need to acquire the company for that reason. This is about acquiring the talent behind the software and merging the customer base.

        "Affordable" is a relative term. It means different things to different folks. If you've ever bought a used car, you'll recognize this language, "runs great", "really clean", "excellent condition".

        In the case of enterprise storage, mid-level SAN solutions are well into 6-figure price range, and high end stuff is 7-figures. We have a Hitachi SAN here that was just over $1M, and it's connected to just four servers. Enterprise storage is not cheap! So you can see that in this market, the term "affordable" is not the same meaning as when you're at Wall-Mart.

          Have you looked at that clientele? They just bought themselves a working-relationship/foothold with some serious heavy-weight customers and absorbed a competitor to their core business product line.

            Unbelievable. Thuggery should've bought the zfs of distributed storage, amplistor. That thing is unbelievable. The gluster mailing list is only at the taking stage of DSS, let some the rest of amplistor's amazingness.
