That explains why he is so insistent on the original L, despite the fact that it's harmful to Upstart... And why he fears "facts on the ground" so much.

    Sigh...
Can you provide a link to that quote? It's ridiculous, he wants to force *systemd* maintainers in Debian to come up with alternatives for systemd interfaces. Not supporters of other init systems, not maintainers of packages that rely on systemd interfaces, but *systemd* maintainers. That is, I can only repeat, ridiculous.

@Annabel: Are you effin' kidding? Serious question.

Well, is he? Do you have any evidence to support a conspiracy?
Something that would disprove the "it's easier to make it that way, so we made it that way, and independent maintainers seems to like what we did"?

I don't think there is any real evidence of a conspiracy, just opinions of some developers eg this guy http://www.linuxuser.co.uk/news/a-li...spiracy-theory

?I guess you have to decide if you are a GNOME app, an Ubuntu app, or an Xfce app unfortunately? And I have no idea what Xfce is or does, sorry. It is my hope that you are a GNOME app.?
Very odd stance. Anyway, as that article says, I don't think the Gnome devs are deliberately breaking stuff that other software depends on, but they just don't give a shit when they do so. One recent example being they broke gnome keyring desktop integration for every other desktop, because they made it require a dbus service that no other desktop implemented, and nobody finds out about this until the new gnome keyring packages get rolled out by distributions, and by then it's too late. So yeah, "I don't know what XFCE is" lies, but happy to break it regardless...

Also not sure that Linus et all agree that systemd is so awesome:

Christ, stop making it sound like we would *want* systemd to do even more odd things.

          Sure, here you go:

This was Jackson's reply to Allbery's position statement.

Yep, that sure looks like a lousy attitude, but I would not attributable it to malice. It is counterproductive, but that's not the same.

              2011?
It's too old. I can't remember what I was thinking about the world in 2011.

              • On an unrelated note, a new version of dbus-glib library was released yesterday and it had a rather strange but funny codename:

The ?I've come to the conclusion that Debian should choose Russ Allbery
to be its new init system? release.

Hah! The only problem is, we need to decide how tightly coupled we allow Russ Allbery to be.
