Phoronix: Debian 13 Will Aim To Include GNOME 48, Debian/Ubuntu Begin Packaging GNOME Papers

For those wondering whether Debian 13 would see the upcoming GNOME 48 desktop packages given the upcoming Debian 13 "Trixie" development freezes, it looks like this updated GNOME release will be squeezed in...

It's pretty simple but good, has annotations (which will improve in futher versions) and most important for me, digital signatures with certificates (both for corp/smartcard and government docs)

Been using it since first stable

Digital signatures are a start. But I don't see any tools for annotations (v47.3-1), but only can show annotations in the side bar, compared to evince being able to highlight text and make notes, and the performance is quite bad. Document properties is dead slow loading and zooming inside a document is a lot slower than in evince, even when giving both ( GB of memory. At least papers has a better default here of 200 MB instead of 50 MB.

48 Beta modules can go straight to unstable and then move to Testing.

Canonical already prioritized key modules so they are ready for the big packaging rush. libadwaita-1 1.7~beta-2 (source)

It would be sad if they didn't have the new kde as well.

That hasn't been a question in many weeks anymore. The question isn't if Plasma 6 will be included, but Plasma 6.2 or 6.3. But 6.2 already is in Sid and largely in Testing as well.

There will be Plasma 6.3 in Trixie because for now 6.3 Beta (aka 6.2.90 and 6.2.91) has been uploaded to Experimental. I don't know if it is fully-functional and installable yet, but it will be in Trixie

What's more, there is a plan to upload even the best version of 6.3 to Trixie - 6.3.5. I hope they'll manage to do it

Wise decision! GNOME 48 brings a few important things, such as HDR support, while still being a fairly conservative release in my opinion.

Also fifo-v1 support since 48 alpha. This got in to Debian Experimental on 20th Jan. So "slow upstream" on "slow distribution" beats "fast developing desktops".
