    Debian 15 Is Codenamed "Duke"

Phoronix: Debian 15 Is Codenamed "Duke"

With Debian 13 freeze dates announced and that Debian 13.0 "Trixie" release working its way toward release likely around August, it's then to be followed by beginning development on Debian 14 codenamed as "Forky". Yesterday when announcing the Debian Trixie freeze dates, the Debian 15 codename was also announced...

In 100 years maybe we'll be into really obscure characters like "Greenish thing with wheels in the corner of scene 5". But I'm sure they'll crank out more sequels or prequels or just do a full on reboot if Disney thinks they will make bank.

What a horrible decision. This would have been the perfect time for Debian Babyface. Even fits with the other recent B's names.

I've been using Linux for ~23 years, never been attracted to Debian's approach. I started out with Gentoo/Suse/Ubuntu and moved to Kororaa/Fedora/Arch... but over the past 3 years I've found myself using it more and more. I don't know if it's just me getting old or if so many other old school distros are messing up. There's been so much fragmentation after Gnome 3 and even more after snap (your userland is proprietary and you might as well be running macos) and Centos (we will always be open source and free to use and Redhat has no influence over us) letdowns. With distros like PopOS Cosmic, Bazzite and SteamOS v3 coming out I miss the time I had for distro hopping. Meanwhile Debian has just remained Debian and has been a good base for things like Proxmox, SteamOS v1, Raspberry Pi OS... I know Debian's not perfect, not by a long shot but it has remained consistent. I respect that.

I hope Debian just keeps staying Debian and that in 23 years I can look back and say the same thing, if Stargate/Skynet hasn't ended us.

I installed Debian to a random cloud Seagate NAS, it was the only distro out of Ubuntu/Fedora/openSUSE TW to install to a 512MB VPS, and there's a page to install it to my phone. Debian's pretty cool! I like all 3 of the Trixie/Forky/Duke names.

I have a feeling I'll give Debian a serious go soon enough!

Honestly, I wish it had girl / woman names like Linux Mint.
            It would seem more attractive.
But considering the crappy website, I think I'm asking for too much.

Debian 14 should have a fully functional MATE desktop running on Wayland. I've got it working on Trixie but there's no time for the packaging team to get the packages into the distro before the release happens.

You realise Jessie (Debian 8) was a female character right?

I run Debian... root on zfs, on luks, on a nvme ssd on RISC-V (visionfive2).

Gotta appreciate how solid Debian is.

Back in 2008 when I finally made full-time Linux switch I've been distrohopping for over a year trying out every distro on Distrowatch list. In the end I settled on Debian. Zero regrets.
