Serpent OS Developing disks-rs To Safely Deal With File-Systems & Block Devices In Rust

Phoronix: Serpent OS Developing disks-rs To Safely Deal With File-Systems & Block Devices In Rust

Serpent OS as the modern, from-scratch Linux distribution being led by well known open-source developer Ikey Doherty has started on a new project: disks-rs. The disks-rs project is intended to deal with file-systems, installation / partitioning, and block device management in a safe and effective manner from the Rust programming language...

For me those are the thinhs that makes the difference, not another distro, not another package manager o wallpaper or whatever that already exists. Those things are great.

Having a libparted alternative is really nice, perhaps mmstick fellas would be interested in it? IIRC their installer uses libparted.

Rust and non-GPL. I can hardly imagine something I could care less about.

Putting the name of your programming language you used into the name of you app is... odd. And yes, I know there is cppcheck and libsigc++, thought this is a bit different, isn't it?

Rust is just a language, the quality of the end result should be what matters more.

As for GPL, its cancerous in how it tries to take over licencing of code around itself. Having an alternative that doesn't try to spread out to take over a whole project doesn't sound like a bad thing.

Hey ho, you do you. That's the benefit of Linux is choice to not use stuff you don't like the look of.

It is a fairly common practice to name projects `<something>-rs` in Rust as a courtesy and a way to namespace project names, where there may be implementations in a different programming language using a similar name.

                    Example: https://github.com/apache?q=arrow&ty...anguage=&sort=
