Ubuntu 25.04 Planning To Ship With The Linux 6.14 Kernel

Phoronix: Ubuntu 25.04 Planning To Ship With The Linux 6.14 Kernel

This shouldn't be too surprising especially after Canonical's commitment last year to always ship the latest upstream kernel version for Ubuntu releases moving forward, but the plan was confirmed today that Ubuntu 25.04 intends to ship with the Linux 6.14 kernel...

They try everything to compensate for their awful Snaps so that people don't notice them!

I don't use Ubuntu, but I don't understand all this aversion to snaps, Ubuntu like any other distribution is free to release its software in the format it prefers and if some users don't like it, use other distributions.

The problem is that ubuntu was a good distro that many normies started to use. Then they update or install a snappified ubuntu, and start cursing their OS because firefox takes 15 seconds to launch, get a bad taste for Linux and go buy a mac. It's almost as if ubuntu is a trojan horse, how else could they justify such reduction in usability?

Come on...it's not like that, many normal users didn't even realize that FF is a snap.
It's not true that FF snap takes 15 seconds to start, it used to be like that, but now it's not like that anymore and the times have become acceptable.
However, if you still think that Ubuntu is still the distro for humans that they once claimed to be, you have a problem.
It's not anymore, Canonical doesn't care about the desktop user, but they're only interested in having them because having a good user base allows you to identify bugs and the like earlier, which is important for their business

My point was that it used to be like that, that turned many away. How was this accepted by ubuntu if not for them being a trojan horse?

It still is slow, easily double that of launch time on native package on fast storage. Unacceptable.

thus will land in time for the kernel freeze on 3 April and other freezes on 10 April ahead of the planned Ubuntu 25.04 availability on 17 April
It's very difficult to have a freeze in April, in many places the weather is way too warm.

If they are aiming for a freeze, towards the end of March would be their best bet.

100 tabs in Firefox and it starts on my 11-year-old machine right away.
Flatpak runs noticeably slower than Snap, in the case of more complex programs.

There's nothing that bothers me there.
I just use this and that as I want.

The time when your "native" decks ruled the world is over. But no one is stopping you from using them all the time. There are still alternatives.

We still have old distributions versus new ones. Just choose.

Meh! I don't notice that flatpaks are slow, on my PC I don't notice any differences with the system package, but I'm certainly not timing it.
Flatpak was created to have a separation between system and applications, when you install an application at the system level, it will have full access to the system, but applications should not have full access to the system, they should only have access to what is needed to function and flatpak and snap do just that.
It's been a while since I used Ubuntu, so I don't know the current status of snaps, but flatpaks on my Tumbleweed Plasma work well and most of the problems that were there until some time ago have been solved.

                    Exactly!
Both Ubuntu with Snaps and Linux Mint refusing to offer the most popular DEs, are giving a bad impression of Linux, especially since they are the most popular / recommended distros.
In my opinion this is either very bad luck or Microsoft's hand in sabotaging the competition!

As for people saying that it doesn't take Firefox 15 seconds to launch, try it on a HDD or in live mode from a pendrive (one of the most recommended ways)!
