Kernel 6.12 you say? I thought Stream 10 would use the same kernel as RHEL 10, but that was on 6.11. This could actually make a nice super boring desktop for family machines.
Amazing, apparently they changed their kernel to the upstream LTS for once, instead of staying on the release before it as usual before.

LTS is still 6.6 as of now. 6.12 is only rolling stable. Not that matters to me ...

I use Fedora for both server and desktop. And ... you can't fire me for that I am glad people are willing to pay for RHEL though. Redhat sponsors Fedora with that money.

So Little Red Riding Hood and Shadowman had a son. Well good for them.
The code name is in remembrance of one of the LVM team members who passed away last year.

I'm glad that Tom seems like the kind of fellow that would have found the humor in that comment.

It's also humorous to me that specifically you of all people replied. I was "this" close to taking the joke one step further by asking if Shadowman was the Woodsman and if that resulted in a "Sesshomaru situation" with LRRH. If y'all thought the ending of Little Red Riding Hood was a happy ending you haven't been paying attention.

To have that thought last night only to be messaged by King InuYasha on the morrow ... I'm genuinely kind of weirded out by that ...

He was an early leader in open-source software, most recently managing a global team at Red Hat Inc.

Tom was an avid cyclist whose specialty was riding uphill ...
I've always found using Red Hat to be like riding a bike uphill. Now I know why.

Damn, though, it's his family's first Christmas without him. I hope his family is able to find some happiness and joy this year and all the years going forward.

6.12 is already listed as LTS at https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html. It is not a huge surprise either given that LTS is traditionally the last release of the year.

I think that would be a great deal.

However I do not consider Centos Stream in general beta quality (though until release of stable RHEL 10, Stream 10 is equivalent to the beta with added fixes).

I use Centos stream 9 in production and I think it is brilliant.

I previously also used Centos Stream 8 in production, without any issues.

It is a perfect OS for those who want a stable and performant desktop for the next years. With Flatpak you will also have the newest software

Just because Red Hat uses CentOS and thus code that the open-source community has written, it doesn't make them freeloaders. They have explicit permission based on the various open-source licenses. Just like you and I do.

Open-source is for everyone in equal weighting. Rich, poor, governments, politicians, etc. Heck, even an off-world Alien is welcome to use it.

Huh? I didn't know there were so many long term kernels. I always go to Linux git page and get the latest, regardless of what the distro offers, and happen to see a branch named lts there. That's it.
