Phoronix: Ubuntu Praises 5~7% PGO Compiler Optimization Performance Benefits

Over the past year we have seen Canonical engineers focus more on optimizing the performance potential of Ubuntu Linux. With Ubuntu 25.04 they are now using the -O3 compiler optimization level by default and there has been other efforts like better performance tooling on Ubuntu and frame pointers by default. Another area they have been exploring is making use of Profile Guided Optimizations (PGO) for faster performance in certain scenarios...

Maybe one day Ubuntu will catch up with the kernel and package optimizations of CachyOS.

Thank goodness there is universal agreement on which Ps to tune for or else this could well have the opposite effect…

Doesn't Ubuntu now use Snap? That seems like a regression.

People love the freedom of Linux while willingly being locked into it

Ya'll can do whatever CachyOS is doing on any distro.

They'll need more speed and optimizations because the snaps start 10x slower.

Absolutely Espionage724. I hope more distros do.

Empire strikes back, if lucky and Ubuntu feels that but who knows whats on the table if and only iff could make some harrasment or product line but bank associates are in danger of nasa propulsion jet laboratory long time analysis for asteroid propulsion movement via striking free processor time of unused government power energy department so power grid is free of failures and energy companies are wallstreet first class choice...

Maybe they should have put some of those RISC-V Framework laptops in production. I take it nobody is making RISC-V servers yet.
