This is a very important difference.
and those Red Hat employees contribute a lot to gnome. Whether it is paid for time or volunteer time may be in question, but we cant dispute which direction most of the upstream contributions are.

Choice isnt changing. KDE was already present and will remain present. There is no more choice and no less choice.

However there is a potential to greater confusion IMO.

More choice on what's best, more confusing to newcomer, "wtf is gnome? Wtf is kde? I guess I'll go back to windows"

I'm happy for KDE users, but boys, those screenshots make my eyes bleed because KDE is so ugly!

And people said the proposal was an April Fools joke (even though it had been proposed a few days prior). Well, they took it very seriously for something that was supposed to be a joke…

People greatly overestimate their own intelligence just because they can install a linux distro. The general public might not all be computer literate, but if they found their way to the Fedora download page, they aren't complete morons. This change isn't that confusing. "That one kind of looks like Windows and that one kinda looks a bit like Mac" and they'll go with whichever they are more comfortable with.

As long as this doesn't affect the development of Gnome Edition I'm fine with it. Please don't remove your focus from the gnome edition because it's making good progress.

Great news, maybe this is indeed a good compromise, so that for the next version both have been on equal grounds so it's more fair to assess the decision to replace gnome as default.

I read that KDE Plasma 6.3 is supposed to have a new Breeze theme and icons. Or Red Hat/IBM wants to get their hands on mainstream linux environments

I knew this was coming, but nice to see! Fedora GNOME is solid, and their KDE packaging has matured a ton in the last few years. Kinoite is also the most polished immutable KDE distro. Upstream KDE developers are mostly on Arch / Fedora / Tumbleweed, so all 3 of those are good places to be if that is your DE of choice.
