Phoronix: Ubuntu 24.10 Now Defaults To NVIDIA On Wayland

With Ubuntu 24.10 due for release in October one of the expressed planned changes has been NVIDIA defaulting to using Wayland rather than X11 for the default desktop session. As of this past week the change is now in place for Ubuntu 24.10 daily users that will find Wayland-by-default when using the official NVIDIA Linux graphics driver...

Don't you mean for the title as Defaults to Wayland on Nvidia?

          NVIDIA On Wayland
If I choose Wayland my Radeon iGPU turns into Nvidia card? What a massive update indeed.

I replaced my RTX 3080 Ti with a RX 6800XT and recently upgraded again to RX 7900XT.. It's too good

Not going back to NVIDIA in a long time

Then you get an even poorer MX laptop GPU.

Wouldn't report this as news, Ubuntu has jumped the gun before.

Which implementation? Are you talking specifically about Mutter and Kwin? Or the whole ecosystem is in a great shape?

                  How's VRR going on?

HDR and 10/12bit color per channel support?

What about all those pesky desktop features?

87 open bug reports just for 7900 alone, not counting other 7XXX cards - that's 97 open bug reports. AMD fans love the myth of the perfectly working hardware supported by open source drivers.

Its like you bought a door, but the door you could not lock it, it creeks and you have to use force to open it and close it. The company you bought it from has not responded to your problems as they already have gotten your money. Now after 10-15 years..you just have given it up and threw away the door and bought a new door from another company that did deliver good quality door that has none of those issues you had for like 10+ years.

Now suddenly that company that neglected you and the problems you had is suddenly telling you they are going to change their support for customers. No offense, but life does not work like that. The amount of stress and negativity many Linux users had to deal with Nvidia i am not sure if many are going to go back, after having tasted the awesomeness of opensource drivers of AMD. I for sure can tell you don't care how powerfull Nvidia GPU's will be (tested 3050..what a joke..some 8 year old GPU are more powerful than these ones) in the future and if AMD only will deliver a max of 4080/5080 quality i will NEVER buy a Nvidia GPU again. I am totally done with companies and closed source nonsense. (the same just recently experienced with Realtek drivers on Openwrt..wifi card just doesn't work..(drivers...), so now bought a Qualcomm Atheros QCNFA765 instead =_=!.
