I'm guessing Microsoft coughs money whereas Apple doesn't.

          This !

Also Gnome Builder needs to include first rate support of Swift just as they do with C, Python and JavaScript.

              Icaza Syndrome again!

First WSL, then more Microsoft technologies.

What's the point of this, exactly? .NET's toolchain is already pretty self-contained, it has it's own build system and package manager. What does this do that the existing toolchain already doesn't?

Excuse me? Where have you been in the last decade? .NET and it's tools are completely open source ever since .NET Core came out 8 years ago. The only proprietary thing in the ecosystem is Visual Studio itself, but I was trucking along just fine with the CLI tooling, VSCode and it's C# LSP until I eventually switched to Rust. Actually, the C# tooling experience is pretty much identical to the Rust one. I never tried .NET development on Linux but it should be seamless, Microsoft actively maintains .NET's tooling to work on Linux, too.

The reference source code of the .NET framework is open source. The redistributable package is under a proprietary EULA, which many don't look upon kindly.

How do I send Canonical the bill for the vomit I now have to clean from my carpet?
