They're shipping it with a pre-release version of GCC, but outdated binutils? 🤔 Shame on them.

Fedora is pretty up to edgy, while being reliable. Thumbs up!!

While the approval process must be respected and followed it was mostly just a formality that gcc 13 (and the other parts) was going to be part of F38 given that the mass rebuild (using pre-release gcc 13) resulted in no significant related breakage (some upstream projects were hit with the ongoing header inclusion cleanup, but that is going to happen sooner or later anyway, so being forced to adjust now is not a big thing).

This is actually a planned pause, not a missed opportunity. Since introducing a new version of the binutils has a tendency to introduce new problems for other packages, we made the decision to delay updating rawhide until after the Fedora 38 branch has been cut. That way F38 will have a known-good, reliable binutils and Rawhide/F39 can start experimenting with the new binutils. See here for more details:

The good news is that the F38 branches are due to be cut soon (Feb 7, 2023) so I will be updating rawhide once they have been created.

          Cheers
          Nick
