20.04 will get kernel upgrades every six months (until 22.04 is available). Yes, they will be six months or more behind, but it's an LTS release, what else would you expect?

If one feels Ubuntu does not give kernel upgrades fast enough, later versions' deb packages can be installed manually from here.

Really? Their release schedule says kernel freeze isn't until April 9th, a full two weeks before release.

That means no new kernel uploads for other than critical updates after that date, it doesn't mean the last day for a major kernel version bump.

You can jolly well build your own 5.6 kernel. That's the whole purpose of open-source; to let people muck and destroy their stuff in their own way.

Well this is not 1999. Some of those people have grown up and do want to concentrate on their job and not waste time compiling software, and fiddling with flags. Doing so is a hobby of yours and doesn't make other baby.

That. Some of us just want to know our stuff will work. It's not that we can't go "BTW, I use Arch", it's that we've been there, done that, and don't feel like doing it.

That's not even necessary, as the kernel.ubuntu.com team does provide every mainline Linux Kernel version precompiled for anyone to use (but remember for good or for worse, those won't have Canonical's tweaks: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/FAQ/UbuntuDelta)

It's what UKUU and other 3rd-party kernel update utilities (eg: https://github.com/pimlie/ubuntu-mainline-kernel.sh) tipically target for install on Ubuntu.

Take some distro config and slap it compiling in background for an hour or so. Don't use you job as an excuse for laziness or incompetence.
