I don't think there exists any root account on Ubuntu. There you use your own normal account then use sudo to get superuser privileges.

root account always exists, it may be hidden and/or locked (no login possible) and accessible only through sudo or su (which DO NOT WORK if you don't have a root account). Just like with the hidden "Local Administrator" account in Windows. https://www.fosslinux.com/17980/how-...-in-ubuntu.htm

So if a distro removes the sudo and su you have to log out and then log in as root to do stuff. If a distro has locked the root account you have to edit manually the passwd file from a live CD. You can always blank the password and enable root login, just like with Windows's Local Administrator account.

I don't care about blank passwords, actually it is quite convenient with empty passwords on your personal desktop computer at home that only you use. I lock my door.

There is always a root account and if you're absolutely certain there's not (which is bogus, but oh well), then you use Polkit. Problem solved.

A company I worked for a while back escorted us around their developing datacentre site. They espoused their site security as very modern. There are actually people who do look for easy targets like unlocked car and house doors for light thievery. There are records on this. Not everyone who steals stuff is a comic book villain with secret martial arts or a character from Home Alone.
