Like most liberal, commie, hippie douches, these people are incapable of having a rational thought. People are supposed to go to school, spend their time and money studying and getting a degree, so that they can then turn around and give away the product they produce for free.

It's the same stupid shit with those that want free education, free medical care, free willy; teachers and doctors are supposed to work for free, despite spending years studying, because reasons.

But I guarantee you that if someone told these people that want free software, free education, free medical care that they would not be getting a paycheck this week they would have a fit.

Is a person supposed to go to college for 4 years to earn B.S. degree, then 4 more years of med school, then 2 years of a residency, 1-2 years of a specialty and after 10+ years of school they are supposed to work for free?

How exactly does free education and free medical care work?

Do you work for free? Or do you expect a paycheck? When your annual review comes around, are you hoping for a pay raise or a pay cut?

People like you are intellectually dishonest or challenged, or often times both.

If you feel like spending time and money for 4-5 yeas to earn a B.S. in Computer Science and then give the software you produce away for free, I support your right to do that.

But remember, you get what you pay for and all you have to do is look at the sad state of Fedora and many other distros to know they are worth every penny you pay for them.

Proprietary software should not be promoted at all, there should be a clear warning that the code cannot be audited. Not every user is educated enough to always check and understand the licence before installing such software. The risk of installing software that is tracking users of does other malicious things is quite high. Just look at how users are enforced now to install proprietary banking apps that contain trackers on Android. This is unacceptable and shouldn't be promoted by an app store! F-droid does state clear warning, this should be used as a good example.

The types of users that would care about the source code are also the types of users that understand licensing. You have a very odd mentality of the average Linux user and a very odd mentality of trusting a vendor that prepackages even open source binaries for you to download. Code is not audited by anyone, that is on the end user to do, and binaries are built on trust.

I have no issue with proprietary packages being listed on Linux. Hell, a really awesome store with a bunch of popular commercial software listed is exactly what Linux *needs* in order to grow. The whole *must be open source* argument is a losing one, and siding with that means that you'll never see the majority of great software out there. Developers are paid after all. Licenses must also be paid for. DRM is a necessary evil to allow things like Spotify to exist. You'll never see an open source version of Spotify, nor will you see an open source version of the Adobe suite (which far outclasses any open source variant).

I'm not knocking on things being open source, but to damn closed source software is foolish. Closed source software will always exist. Attempting to hide it only hurts Linux adoption, which is something the world sorely needs.

no, what the world sorely needs is open source alternatives. There are just too many extent examples that prove it already. Firefox and Chrome, Ubuntu and Fedora, Many, many server apps (mariadb apache send mail, etc) Gnome and KDE, etc...
