          This is good news, and it also explains why the VLC-git AUR package recently began pulling version 4.0.0 when downloading the git info.

            According to the VLC dev information, the 3.0 release is being held up by crashes and regressions. They have about 30 open issues left to fix at this time. I'd like to see them hold off releasing it until it can work properly with the upcoming FFMPEG 3.5, which brings features that people want and need for newer systems.
