Pulseaudio update to QuodLibet broke internet radio playing with Alsa. Vlc works fine with Alsa. Xfce developers should use Alsa and Gstreamer compatible apps instead of pulseaudio. High end music production and gaming computers do not have pulseaudio.

This suggestion is about a decade late, PulseAudio has been the desktop standard for years and I barely started using GNU/Linux long ago to remember how bad it was before PulseAudio took over.

We do not use pulse audio in fortress Evropa. Also, mplayer will do, bound to media file types in thunar.

Anyways, I'm using JACK for apps that supports it with a great latency, with pulseaudio over for other apps, without any noticeable latency. Any app that uses ALSA, Pulse or JACK works fine. And anyways your gimmick xfce apps aren't ever going to compete with real software.

GStreamer is not comparable to Pulseaudio or ALSA. Both of those are GStreamer output sinks. The purpose of GStreamer is to connect audio and video sources, codecs and outputs and keep them in sync.

And while "high end" (actual music production software works fine on a Core 2 Duo or old Athlon, it isn't like audio bitrates have changed any in the last 15 years) may prefer Jack or direct ALSA, gaming systems don't.

I haven't used a high end gaming system with a sound card in years because expensive sound cards are nearly useless. Which means that a sound server of some kind is required. My Intel 5960x with SLI Nvidia 980s uses a USB gaming headset or HDMI sound output. Both of those need Pulseaudio. Good luck making that work with straight ALSA. Especially the automatic switch when plugging in the headset.

Of all the Linux sound servers ever written, Pulseaudio is the best one so far. There are excellent reasons that it replaced everything that came before it.

Yeah JACK exists but it is not general purpose, requires hand-tuning, and JACK simply fails to work at all if your hardware is not up to it.

Buggy software like pulseaudio, networkmanager and gnome3 maybe is standard in other side of the Atlantic but not in more civilized world. Pulseaudio came to Xfce year or two ago with a fake reason that xfce-mixer was not portable to gstreamer 1.0. Gstreamer is used in the industry, like automotive industry and is lighter and stable.

Redhat based software makes Debian buggy and has too much influence for a stable distribution. Gome3 turns many windows users away when thinking of using Linux.

And here I thought you were always 100% happy with Debian and Xfce, but for the first time (at least in my encounters) you actually seem critical about something they did/do. Wow.
