  • Chrome has 20% idle CPU usage on Linux, for the last 5 years

I always wondered why Chrome often has around 20% idle CPU usage on Linux. Just found out why: It's the "flashing tab if there's something new" animation!

    See this bug: https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium...etail?id=98869

For many users, this problem is constantly happening, because they have Gmail open in some tab, which almost always triggers this tab flashing notification.

Ironically, the bug is so old that it uses Google Reader as an example of a site where this happened (I guess they "solved" that problem there ...).

What is also depressing is the combination of restricting comments with the way bug priorities are handled.

    1. Mark issue as high priority (Pri-1)
    2. "We understand the problem here enough that we don't need additional comments. I'm restricting adding comments."
    3. "This issue is Pri-1 but has already been moved once, therefore lowering to Pri-2 and moving to next milesone."
    4. "This issue has already been moved once and is lower than Priority 1,therefore removing mstone."
    5. Year long silence.
