If you think like that, then Linux is trashy anyway.

    Ugh... Stupid Linux community...

If there are no alternatives to Windows and no alternatives to Linux and I cannot afford a Mac, then what now? I enjoyed Phoronix, but for some reason, I'm starting to hate the Linux community as a whole.

KDE feels just ugly and messy... and I personally don't like winXP style DE by the way (mate, cinnamon and xfce can all fit in this category probably). Also Crunch Nang with its fully configured openbox+dock wasn't that bad. Anyway these are only personal opinion.. it's all about taste after all
Woah don't lump XFCE in with those. It is far better than Mate or Cinnamon IMO. Go look at some of the XFCE porn. https://www.reddit.com/r/unixporn/

I have big hands and no problem whatsoever with the size of stuff in GNOME. Maybe that's a HDPI problem you had, and with that I agree: GNOME still has work to do in this aspect.

Had no problems with using my keyboard on 3.16. What real problems did you have? I mean, something you can point specifically so I can confirm and open a bug report.

Maybe the activities view is, but I find that a really nice solution afterall and, with a little more love, it'll be awesome to manage my workspace. All other features are rather minimalistic and not disruptive at all, from notifications to configurations.

I don't get it. Too big or too small? You have to decide.

Maybe, but compared to KDE and XFCE it pretty much nails it. All configurations in one place, only one way to install software, good names for apps, etc.

If they could make it so extensions don't break with each iteration, that would be cool. Without extensions Gnome 3.x is a incomplete hot mess.

All this effort is for nothing

I believe windows desktop is 90% what a user want
Microsoft got this from the first try

Linux desktop environment developers should just create an interface exactly like Windows and continue to improve from there

Not only that they create new and different interfaces than windows, but they also try to force an interface made for tablets, touchscreens on desktop users
                EPIC FAIL

Only distribution that seems to understand this is Linux Mint (MATE/Cinammon)
It's the principle of evolution Linux serves to illustrate well. Lots of effort, trying out different things, most going nowhere..

MS defined the "desktop" for users and is now itself in trouble redefining it (people usually dislike Win10 UI).

Agree on part of Mate/Cinnamon. Latter is what G3 should have been like to be success.

Yes, but the most annoying part for me is that the Linux developers refuse to hear what users say or don't understand some basic design rules like having the ability to quickly close maximized windows by going to the top-right corner and click, which is so easy that it can be literally done with your eyes closed.
If they would've understood that, they wouldn't come with weird designs like the taskbar at the top or on the right side which makes the above feature impossible.

As for Windows, Microsoft indeed tried to change the traditional interface, probably also they thought that the one from Windows Xp -> 7 is not that good and it can be improved.
                  Pretty stupid of them.
I dislike both Windows 8 and 10 interface so that's why I stopped at Windows 7.

On linux after using MATE and Cinnamon, I have now settled on KDE Plasma since it comes by default with the traditional interface, it's very fast, doesn't take to much resources and has built-in integration for my phone.
If there's something that I don't like, I can easily change it to be as I prefer it.

Welcome to Linux under corporate control. You can get a ride but have no say in choosing destinations. "We devs know better". The other thing might be that person can be either designer or coder but usually not both at once. So you'll have cood coding but uglish design (hey, Lumina). Linux Mint & Cinnamon seem to be exceptional in that they seem to have both devs and good UI designers.

Win 7 is going to be EOL'ed in 3 weeks or so. Windows 8.1 can definitely stripped of "Metro UI" for the most part, apps can be removed etc but the major problem for me at least is no official Ryzen driver support for Win 8.1
8.1 can be made to look tolerably like 7 but driver support is going to be lacking because AMD is supporting only 7 and 10. Which sucks.
