It might be better now, and I have nothing against using ALSA applications with PulseAudio.
I'm also well aware that PulseAudio uses ALSA.
Trust me, I've been using Linux for more than 15 years, even from the OSS (before ALSA) days. I know what I'm talking about.
I'm referring to the issues that happen when you are playing a game with ALSA and then you have music playing on the background with a Pulse app and then the device would be "busy". This has happen to me more than once and I've had enough, so I go with apps that have a good pulse driver.

haven't done it for 2 releases and only against latest upstream 9999 base - so honestly don't know, might need some tinkering
