  • Problems with kubuntu/KDE (migrate to another ubuntu?)

    Hello there,

I've got a computer using kubuntu x64 and sometimes XBMC gets frozen and I have to restart or suddenly XBMC exists to operative system desktop. I think it is a KDE problem since it sometimes shows an error like "KWIN destop manager failed".

    Information about the system:

-Intel J1900 CPU with integrated Intel graphics.
    -Kubuntu 14.10
-XBMC 13.2 using skin Aeon NOX 4.1.9.9 and also Amber

I know it's little information but perhaps the problem is I have to install some different drivers or it's a normal problem with kubuntu and I should go to another distro (kde is not know by its stability as far as I'm concerned).

If it can be normal with kubuntu and my best is going to another distro, any reccomendation? I have kubuntu quite customized to look like Windows OS, so I need a distro that allow this customization, but the most important requirement is that it will be stable.

    Many thanks

    Did you decide yet?
I had various crashes using kde with Kubuntu or some flavour of KDE.
I mostly use Ubuntu w/ Gnome but I 'm thinking of trying Cinnamon or MATE. I suggest trying one of those with Ubuntu or the latest Mint.
It might make for an interesting comparison.
You could try Debian with KDE but if you still get the crash, then install a different DE.

Also, consider googling the bug message and filing a bug report (with Kubuntu and/or KDE devs).

      Many thanks for your answer,

At this moment I'm trying some light distros such as Lubuntu or Xubuntu, perhaps will stay on some of them.

      Regards
