Phoronix: Unvanquished Alpha 33 Works On Soft Particles & New Maps

The latest monthly development release of the Unvanquished game is now available. This is now the thirty-third alpha release for the project while it's not expected to reach beta until at least next year...

Beyond these changes there's also been a large number of bug-fixes present in this open-source, cross-platform game.
Sadly, a substantial part of the game data is not under a free license (also lacks source which is important for models). Some sounds even have questionable legality.

A small bit of background for other people reading this: Unvanquished is split into three segments at the moment:
      • Engine, which is completely GPL
      • New artwork, gameplay and maps, which is all Creative Commons
      • Sound and remaining models from Tremulous, which have unknown authorship (bad)

Beta goals of the project are to replace all questionable content, and we're slowly getting there. We're strictly trying to keep it all CC http://wiki.unvanquished.net/index.p...ists#Licensing

Consequentially: if anyone here is a sound artist with some free time, say hi to us on IRC

(also lacks source which is important for models)
I agree that it's a major headache to work on models without their source files -- importing .md* and .iqm models is not an ideal way to derive work from them. It's not legally required for Creative Commons licences AFAIK, but it would be nice if we could spread that around. I've not been around for a while so you should bring it up with the rest of the team.
