They're actively asking people to step up and contribute. Please do so, if you think you can fix the defaults.

Way to go smitty. You scared off all the people who keep mentioning that they do not like Plasma's default look.

Actually, the same thing happened on Reddit. When Plasma Next got some screenshots, the whole Reddit thread was fiiled with "KDE sucks, the spacing between icons is off." However, the Reddit thread based off this "Visual Design Group" is basically empty (at least of this post). I guess those Reddit-ers know the old phrase: "put up or shut up."

Don't know. Maybe, although I hope not.
With that version scheme it's not possible to tell ? just by looking at the version number ? that it's the Plasma 2.0 release. For less experienced users this could interpret it as more mature than a regular dot-0 release.

Plasma has nothing to do with window styles. It's the taskbar and widget styles that constitute the Plasma theme. The default Plasma theme is called Air, but yes, there are plenty of Plasma (and window decoration, and widget colour, and icon, and cursor) themes available for download through the "Get new themes" buttons throughout the whole System Settings. It takes around two seconds to install a new theme that way.

Why? Why is it so ugly ... with all those thick frames, glamour dashes and candy eye icons...

Because there is a lot of complaining, but in the end no one is willing to help/provide a new theme.

There are plenty of alternative themes - people just need to stop judging an ENTIRE interface based on looking at screenshots for 2 minutes. I'm basing this off of the current version of plasma an KDE.

Plasma 2014.6? Are they on crack? Mandriva tried that once and went bankrupt. Ubuntu does date versions and loses money every day. Has there ever been successful Linux project with date versions?
