Anyway, it's been said forever that wayland support would only come after the Qt5 port. So expect a preview next fall, with a more release-worthy version around spring 2015. That would put them on about the same schedule as Canonical with Mir.

This particular post is about KDE Frameworks not Kwin specifically. It's a "big picture" post, so of course it's not going to mention Wayland support.

All that being said, Kwin will be adding Wayland support after the transition to KDE Frameworks 5. There's just too much change going on and they've decided to move to Qt5 before adding full Wayland support.

Kde frameworks 5 and plasma 2 will come to kde 4.12, which has first version this year december. Not sure will there be wayland support right from the start but it surely is coming sooner than 2015.

Come on, at least read the info that was linked to in this article. These timelines are changing all the time, as things get done faster or slower than expected. What you've written is wrong.

And my spring 2015 estimate is just a guess, but it's a pretty good one. That would be a version that you might see used by a distro - not just some test version that beta testers can manually try out.

According to the link, they expect to release a preview of plasma workspace 2 the first quarter of 2014 and a final release in the second quarter of 2014.

That makes no sense. KDE Frameworks 5 is based on Qt 5 and isn't binary compatible with Qt 4 and kdelibs 4.12 so mixing the two isn't possible. Plasma Workspaces 2.0 depends on KDE Frameworks 5. KDE Workspaces 2.0 will be released in second quater of 2014. KDE Applications 5.0 will likely be released around the same time (some KDE applications have already been ported to KF5). As Qt 5 works on Wayland and KDE Frameworks 5.0 has been designed that in mind, KDE Applications 5.0 will likely all work on Wayland. KDE Workspaces 2.0 (includes KWin) will have at least an experimental Wayland support as moving to Qt 5, KF5 and Wayland at the same time is bit too disruptive. Anyhow I wouldn't be suprised to see Wayland by default by Plasma Workspaces 2.1 or even 2.0. The release schedule for Workspaces might also change from six months to three.

As every Qt that uses Qt5 (or even Qt4 in some parts) has Wayland support by default. KWin is another thing has its much more complex.
And btw Plasma will doesn't need two binaries like GNOME Shell
